Gold Saucer Opens for Business in Final Fantasy XIV

Final Fantasy XIV’s race towards its first proper expansion, Heavensward, has only sharpened its focus on the existing game's content. One of the game’s most hotly anticipated new features, the Manderville Gold Saucer, became available to players as of yesterday morning’s update.

Fans of the Gold Saucer’s original incarnation will be thrilled with its Final Fantasy XIV counterpart. The Manderville Gold Saucer faithfully reproduces chocobo racing and even borrows Final Fantasy VIII’s triple triad card game. Even if you’re not interested in the myriad of minigames that the Manderville Gold Saucer offers, there’s one obvious reason to at least visit the location.

The music. Oh my god, the music. The Manderville Gold Saucer borrows another classic track, rearranging Final Fantasy VIII’s “Shuffle or Boogie” to accompany triple triad matches. Attached below is Kotaku's Mike Fahey's tour of the Manderville Gold Saucer, for your visual—and audible— pleasure.
