Which party is the best to beat Final Fantasy VII? Aerith dies so she doesn't count. I have no idea but is it Cloud, Tifa, and Cid? Or is it something else. What do you think?

Cloud Strife, Tifa Lockhart, and Cid Highwind are three of the most well-rounded party members, considering their respective Limit Breaks, attributes, and optimized equipment.

Secondary option to Cid Highwind is probably Barrett Wallace.

I wouldn't even consider Red XIII as any type of support... The only time I ever used him to his fullest was during the escape from Shinra and making him learn all his Limit Breaks. His final Limit Break is just a lousy beam that hits all enemies once. Unless you let his Limit Break stay in Level 3, his overall capabilities do give him an advantage on Vincent Valentine and Caith Sith, whom I almost never use.

Here is my party selection tier for Final Fantasy VII:

Cloud Strife
Tifa Lockhart
Cid Highwind
Barret Wallace
Yuffie Kisaragi
Aeris Gainsborough
Red XIII
Vincent Valentine
Cait Sith

How far in the game are you?

If you're just starting out (which it sounds like) I would recommend playing with all the characters and making your own decisions.

Still, I would say Cloud, Tifa and Cid are probably the best three late game (even if Tifa feels weak early game). I don't remember the third, but Cloud and Tifa are in my party.

Just as a reference: my party all have Master Magic, Master Command, Master Summon, 4x Cut, two Magic Plus, two Speed Plus and (I believe) two HP Plus materia (a few counters and whatnot, but those are the primary ones), so their stats are basically the same except for a few points of speed that are functionally useless. Late game I would just go for limit breaks, in which case the list goes as MJ has put it, but I would leave Barrett's limit at level 3 as well, Ungarmax for the fucking win.

Wow... Not much of a comparison you're making there.

If you are just starting out, you'll easily detect that Tifa Lockhart is more suited as a magic support since Barrett Wallace pretty much took the role of tank while Cloud Strife is the versatile fighter.

If you never really noticed the differences between all the characters since this game isn't that difficult, then good for you. Use whichever two removable party members you feel suits your gameplay style.

Is Vincent and Red XIII useless or are Cloud, Tifa, and Cid just better?

Late game everyone's about the same, except for limit breaks, and Vincent's limit you lose control of him, and Red XIII isn't really better than a normal attack in any way.

Wow... Not much of a comparison you're making there.

The point was that late game they're so similar you don't really need to compare them. Except with limit breaks. During various stages of the game people have different usefulness depending on the monsters you're fighting, your play style and your materia setup.

My play style is pretty much just physically attack everything and heal occasionally, so I used Cloud and whoever had the best weapons at whatever point I was in the game.

endgame really makes no difference because your materia is so jacked

HOWEVER

Yuffie + Conformer + Morph = 9,999 dmg per hit

Et il est un jour arrivé
Marteler le ciel
Et marteler la mer

Et la mer avait embrassé moi

Use that on Gelnika to supe up characters and there is not much need for magic materia anymore. Then again, if you have the necessary ingredients to make Master Materia, the game is a walk in the park. Even the optional weapons should fear you.

i wouldn't say there is a "best" team, they're all as good as each other, it just depends how much effort you put into them.
