Final Fantasy IX, the last PS-One era entry in the series, is set to debut on Android, iOS, and PC "soon" in 2016 according to Square Enix. The rerelease of the ninth Final Fantasy will feature a variety of updates that were first seen in the Final Fantasy VII and VIII PC releases, including but not limited to improved gameplay speeds, saving features, and bumped-up graphics.
A tremendous level of detail went into the creation of Final Fantasy IX, which was developed at the PS1's prime. Hopefully, Square Enix will be able to achieve a higher level of visual clarity than what was managed with Final Fantasy VII or VIII's re-releases, but only time will tell. Though it never achieved the same level of critical acclaim as Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy IX presented a welcome return to the series' roots and its soundtrack is cited by composer Nobuo Uematsu as his personal favorite.
It's also noteworthy that Square Enix has basically leapfrogged Final Fantasy VIII for a mobile release. You can read more about the specific requirements for Final Fantasy IX here and watch the announcement video below.
