In a significant announcement for fans of the iconic RPG series, Square Enix has seemingly confirmed that the entire Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy will be coming to the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. This includes Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade and, presumably, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and the yet-untitled third installment.
The news was revealed during Nintendo’s recent “Creator’s Voice” video series, where Naoki Hamaguchi, director of the FFVII Remake series, expressed enthusiasm about bringing the games to Nintendo’s next-generation console.
At the 4:00 minute mark near the end of the video, Hamaguchi remarks, "And with the release of the FFVII remake series on Switch 2, it would make me very happy if two generations connect and share a bond over the characters." Additional information is promised at the the end of the video.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is slated to be among the launch titles for the Switch 2, which is set to release on June 5, 2025. This version includes enhanced visuals and additional content, such as the “Episode INTERmission” featuring Yuffie Kisaragi.
While specific release dates for Rebirth and the third installment on the Switch 2 have not been announced, the confirmation of the trilogy’s availability on the platform marks a notable expansion of Square Enix’s commitment to multi-platform releases. This move also signifies a strengthening partnership between Square Enix and Nintendo, bringing one of the most beloved RPG series to a broader audience. Pre-orders for the Switch 2, at all retailers, universally sold-out within hours (if not minutes) of availability in April 2025.
Fans can look forward to experiencing the reimagined journey of Cloud and his companions on the versatile and portable Switch 2, blending nostalgic storytelling with modern gameplay enhancements.
