Media Create did a little investigation into how old games (that were released nine to ten months ago) are doing on the market today. The testing took 13 days, but preliminary data from December 29, 2003 till January 4, 2004 were used to form the results below. In this time, approximately three tenths of the games sold were at least six months old. The best selling old game in that time was none other than Square Enix's Final Fantasy X-2 (released March 2003 in Japan). Media Create intends to make their future investigations even more accuate by working with an increased number of stores, by following transactions, and doing much more.
Note that the above study was conducted using only Japanese sales figures, and not those of Europe or North America. In addition, it was mentioned that Final Fantasy X-2 sold for 2,812 JPY and cost retailers around 1,404 JPY. The number of FFX-2 copies sold in the test period totaled to approximately 14,000. Next in line came Capcom's Biohazard Outbreak (PS2) selling approximately 10,000 copies.
In related news, Final Fanatsy X-2 made the 20th place on GameFly's top renters of 2003 (USA).
