In an interview with Takeshi Tokita from Square Enix product development division 7, he talks about their latest project Final Fantasy I & II Advance for Gameboy Advance. Also includes comments on Final Fantasy III remake which hasn't been released yet, while I & II has already been remade twice on Wonderswan and Playstation.

  • We aren't withholding Final Fantasy III. We're just always missing the chance to release it. Personally, if I had the chance, I would like to add new things here and there, but since it's been postponed for a long time there is a high expectations of this game. If I change too much or too less, the users will be complaining... It's difficult to decide what is just-right.

  • That legendary last dungeon actually had a save point. The reason why it was taken off was because the part-time debugger at that time who played the game told the producer, "It was too easy!". So the producer got a little upset and told him, "I'll take it out then!". Thus making it legendary in the name of difficulti-ness.

  • Nintendo was keen on Final Fantasy III remake when we went over to say hi.

  • Final Fantasy I & II Advance is a good addition to the Famicom Mini collection, but we may need to adjust Final Fantasy to adapt to the hellishly difficult last dungeon...

  • We made the image illustrations a more attractive to younger end of the users who was not even born when the game was released to have them interested in the game.

  • The growth system has changed. In the original, when you increased the magic attributes, it decreased the attack attributes and vice versa. All that has now been cut out and changed into a more flexible system. Now, your character will grow 4 times faster.

  • If you want, you can create an all white mage party... but we can't assure you that you'd be able to finish the game with it...

  • It took about 20 people to make Final Fantasy I & II.

--- Would you like to make another Final Fantasy on Gameboy Advance? Well, I think there might be a possibility to make a completely new title.

--- Perhaps a numbered Final Fantasy? I dunno about that?
