Chocobo Trainer

Chocobo Trainer is a mini-game which takes place in the Calm Lands. There, you will find a lady on a chocobo who will give you the option of training one of them. In order to ride a chocobo freely in the Calm Lands, you have to successfully complete the first of four exercises. Each exercise consists of obstacles and a time limit, which you have to beat. If successfully completed, you will receive a prize from the trainer. To obtain another prize, it is required of you to beat the new time record you just made.

Wobbly Chocobo - This exercise involves riding a chocobo to the finish line under 12.8 seconds. However, this chocobo is wild and will not stay on course. Therfore, it is required of you to move the left analog stick in order to keep the chocobo from going anywhere but straight. After completing this exercise, you can ride a chocobo for free in the Calm Lands. All that is required, is for you to ask the trainer for one.

Dodger Chocobo - In this exercise, you get to ride a more tamed chocobo. However, this time you have to avoid incoming blitzballs that temporarily stun your chocobo. This can result in you loosing precious seconds, thus not helping you reach the finish line on time.

Hyper Dodger Chocobo - This exercise is similar to the previous one, only this time you have to dodge both blitzballs and birds. Best strategy here is to stay close to the balloons, and as the blitzballs and birds come, move to the center of the track. This will allow you to avoid the incoming objects and reach the finish line on time.

Catcher Chocobo - This exercise involves you racing the trainer from the entrance of the Calm Lands to the north-eastern exit. On the way, you will have to avoid both blitzballs and birds which will add three seconds to your time (each). There are also balloons which can be collected in order to subtract three seconds of your time. The winner of the race is determined by whoever took the least amount of time to reach the end.

On your first win against the trainer, you are given passage to reach Tidus' legendary weapon. Also, if you complete the Catcher Chocobo race under zero seconds, you can obtain the Sun Sigil which is required for you to unlock Tidus' legendary weapon. You can obtain the zero second goal by collecting as many balloons as you can, and by avoiding as many blitzballs and birds in your path.
