Many remember Yasumi Matsuno as the acclaimed director of Final Fantasy Tactics, Vagrant Story, and Final Fantasy XII. Unlike any other directors, Matsuno holds the extraordinary record of having directed two games (Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy XII) to be venerated and acclaimed with perfect scores by the hard-line Japanese magazine Famitsu.
Having pioneered and directed a majority of FFXII, Matsuno was forced to bow out of production, sighting health reasons, in early 2005, and subsequently resigned from Square-Enix altogether. Well, he's back, and at work in one of the most unexpected of places: Nintendo's Wii console. Matsuno is at work on the as-of-yet unnamed title with an as-of-yet unnamed comapny. Matsuno, at the Nintendo Press Conference, expressed his warm-heartedness towards the Wii and its controllers, itterating that great graphics do not necessarily equate to a great game.
Speculation at this point indicates that he may have joined Final Fantasy series Creator Sakaguchi at MistWalker; but that's only speculation at this point, with a dash of irony.
