Clarifying a Comment on a Discredited Rumor

Speaking out against months of persistent rumors that Final Fantasy, particularly XIII, will go multi-platform, Shinji Hashimoto quelled all speculation last week. In the first definitive statement regarding the prospect of Final Fantasy on Xbox 360, Hashimoto laid waste to the rumor mill.

As for Final Fantasy on the Xbox 360, it's currently a completely blank page.

Final Fantasy XI, released in 2003, currently plays on PC, PS2, and Xbox 360—releasing to platforms in that order. In terms of multi-platform, that is as far as Square Enix has gone. Hashimoto’s comments created quite a stir in circles vainly hoping to see the still exclusive Final Fantasy XIII on the 360; to the point that a spokesman for Square Enix bluntly clarified the comment while speaking to GameIndustry.biz

Hashimoto-san was talking about the current situation.

Final Fantasy XIII has been ruled out--but the possibility, however minute and obscured by the poor sales of the 360 in Japan, of Square projects on the 360 remains: after all, the Last Remnant is heading to Xbox and PS3, but does that stack up to Final Fantasy XIII? Only time will tell. And don’t ask about XIII going multiplatform again. Best behave, children; don’t make Square Enix repeat herself, or else she will turn this car around.
