Earlier today, SQEX President Yoichi Wada announced that Dragon Quest IX: Defenders of the Sky will release early in 2009 for Japan. While not a definite release date, it's more than we've heard on the Level5 developed title in months.
Asked for reasoning on the lack of DQIX news, Wada replied that SQEX wanted consumers to focus on the various DQremakes (IV, V & VI) until the game began to enter it's final phases of development~

yeah, that, or the developers have been focusing on the remakes and forgot that there was a new title to be making.

Fair enough. I guess it was a smart marketing move, if people were focused on DQIX, they might have held out for it rather than buying the remakes.
