With less than two months left before the final installment of the Lightning Saga hits shelves internationally, Square Enix announced today a Collector's Edition of the game that will be exclusive to their online store in North America. It's a surprise move on Square's part given the game's already controversial reception and less than stellar performance in Japan (selling 277,000 copies compared to Final Fantasy XIII's 1.5 million) but is likely to get many more people talking about the game ahead of its release.

Personally, I'm excited for LR:FFXIII. XIII-2, while imperfect in its own right, was nevertheless a huge improvement over its predecessor and advance previews from IGN and Kotaku have all been unanimously positive. Famitsu even rated it 37/40—but they also gave the first game a 39/40 so take that as you will. Either way, I await its release with bated breath.
Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will release in North America on February 11, 2014 and in Europe or February 14, 2014.
