Square + EA Split Up
sifar    2003-02-19, 01:00 am.

Squaresoft and Electronic Arts have cancelled their joint venture, and now Square EA will become a 100% subsidiary of EA alone. There was a contract between the two firms which had expired not too long ago and Square's merging with Enix has led to this event. EA plans to modify the 'Square EA' name by March 31, 2003 into Electronic Arts Corporation. Square EA had started out on May 1, 1998 on the basis of a joint venture contract where EA invested 70% in the venture and Square 30%. The two had joined forces back then so that they could enlarge business sales through the joint venture.

Final Fantasy XI was developed by Squaresoft and was being sold by Square EA. This recent split up is said not to effect the sales of FFXI. It is expected that FFXI will continue to be sold by EAC or by another. More details may be released later on during the week.
