The project is apparently being continued, despite a steady streams of rumors suggesting it had been cancelled. However, Square Enix commented that it was currently dealing with storage-related problems, as the original Final Fantasy III was released in the final phase of the Famicom. The company was also asked about the possibility of a game starring both Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest characters, a la Nintendo's Super Smash Bros. Melee. Square Enix made it clear it had no plans whatsoever to develop such a title.
