Square Enix has released additional information regarding its Cavia-developed action RPG Drag-on Dragoon (Drakengard) for the PlayStation 2. Weapons and magic will be upgraded after you have killed a certain amount of enemies. Each weapon in the game can be upgraded four times, with both its power and form possibly changing in the process. By upgrading the weapons, it will also be possible to unleash larger chain attacks. Levelling up magic will result in greater power or range of the respective spell. It was also revealed that between 2000 and 3000 enemies will appear in the field. To play through the game once will take about 20 hours, therefore players have to spend more than 100 hours before the screen if they want to see all five endings. Also, depending on how the game is being played, the story progression will change. Last but not least, the game has been in development for more than two years, with the development team being made up of about ten people who had been involved in the development of Namco's Ridge Racer, Ace Combat and Tekken, Sony Computer Entertainment's ICO, and Capcom's Resident Evil: Code Veronica.
Drag-on Dragoon will be available in Japan on September 11th at a retail price of 6,800 yen (56.96USD). Drakengard will be published by Square Enix USA sometime in early 2004.
