At this year's Sony PlayStation Awards, Dragon Quest V obtained the Platinum award for selling between 1 to 2 million units during 2004. The remake was very well recieved in Japan and sold over 700,000 copies in its first day of release. The title sold over 1.5 million copies within its first two weeks and has been the most successful Dragon Quest remake for the company. In related news, no title this year won the Double Platinum award which is given to games that have sold more than 2 million copies.

Square Enix announced that it has shipped 1.5 million copies of Dragon Quest V to retailers throughout Japan.
