First Worldwide VG Concert Tour in the works

The first worldwide video game concert tour, "PLAY! A Videogame Symphony", was announced recently by the people at JMP Productions and Europe's Symphonic Game Music Concerts. PLAY! will start in North America sometime in 2006 and feature music from 20 or so games including Final Fantasy, Silent Hill, Battlefield: 1942, World of Warcraft, and The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. The concert will have music performed by a full orchestra and choir, and a huge canvas upon which memorable moments (video clips) of each game will be featured to accompany the scores.

Here are some quotes from the Producers:

"As the most experienced team in the field of video game music concerts we will present the ultimate tour to the fans.", says series producer Jason Michael Paul.

"PLAY! will feature award-winning music from titles such as FINAL FANTASY®, SILENT HILL®, BATTLEFIELD 1942TM, WORLD OF WARCRAFT® and THE ELDER SCROLLS III: MORROWINDTM. In total, around 20 titles are going to be performed."

1UP.com was able to get an interview with Jason Michael Paul and Thomas Boecker, the two main people involved in the project, to find out what they had in store for fans during their big concert tour.

The people at JMP Productions are best known for their work on the successful "Dear Friends - Music from FINAL FANTASY" symphony tour. They will be working in collaboration with Thomas Boecker who is the Executive Producer of Europe's Symphonic Game Music Concerts. Maestro Arnie Roth, will be the head conductor and music director for PLAY!. He is the music director and principle conductor of the Chicagoland Pops.
