The year is 2065, and Earth is besieged by alien invaders known as Phantoms. Under the tutelage of Dr. Cid, Aki Ross is on the verge of understanding the invaders, by gathering life forms known as ‘spirits’ in order to nullify the Phantoms.

But humanity, which is now bound within ‘barrier’ cities, has other plans for the Phantoms, namely attacking their base—the Leonid Meteor—from an orbital space station: the Zeus Canon. It soon becomes a race against the clock for Aki, who must recover all the spirits before the Zeus Canon injures the Earth’s life force beyond all knowing.

The Spirits Within was the first ever fully CGI-rendered movie, and was a departure from the themes of the Final Fantasy series.
