The Story Continues

With Final Fantasy XII just over a week away from release in the United States, it'll be interesting to see the new developments regarding Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings, surface through scans and internet media across the world. We've got some new(ish) details to report on the game, which will be a Nintendo DS continuation of one of the most successful games from Square Enix to date.

Directing this game will be Motome Torishima, who many of us recognize as director of Final Fantasy X-2. More than anything, Torishima considers this entrant in the franchise to be aimed at the idea of "my first first Final Fantasy," a concept that will undoubtedly make itself known in the combat, which "eliminates" more confusing aspects of the battle system, implementing swifter, easier features based on touch-pad control. Already, though, similarities between Revenant Wings and X-2 are beginning to emerge, though Torishima disputes any claims that Revenant Wings will have a direct-sequel plot a la X-2.

For instance, as both Vaan and Penelo are now sky-pirates in their own rights, they have an airship which is controllable immediately after the commencement of the game. Together, Vaan and Penelo escape the many hinderances of life on the ground, escaping politics and other squabbles for freedom of the air. At this point, in regards to plot, we know that these two will take center stage, unlike XII, which has been described as being Ashe-centric in it's plot, and a love story has been madly hinted at.

Still, it makes you wonder where or when Torishima is planning to create this game, given that he's at the head of Final Fantasy XIII.

Yay for clashing projects!

The Nintendo DS Sequel to Final Fantasy XII is out on the market in the USA today. Or, it should be, unless Square Enix has pulled another shoddy street-date-is-actually-the-ship-date release like they did with the War of the Lions. Any-who, it's getting pretty average scores on the internet, but someone give it a try and then let us know all...
