A Difficult Transition

In a recent issue of Dengeki, FFXIII director Motomu Toriyama and FF Versus XIII director Tetsuya Nomura popped a squat to talk about the ongoing development of the two games respectively. Among other things, both directors commented on the hurdle that transitioning from PS2 to PS3 has been. Reportedly, the gap that they had to bridge was wider than that between the PS1 and the PS2.

Since XIII had originally been slated for a PS2 release, Toriyama states that the majority of the early content had to be ditched completely, save for a few luck character designs and basic world elements. Nomura said that Versus thus far has been an entirely from-the-ground-up creation.

A high point of the conversation was when both stated they hope to have a functional prototype of both games completed soon; the first concrete details regarding the game's development stage we've heard since E3.
