According to Japanese gaming site Quiter and the upcoming issue of Famitsu, Final Fantasy producer Yoshinori Kitase is interested in making a direct sequel to Final Fantasy VII, which is often cited as the most popular installment of the series. Tetsuya Nomura also expresses such interests. Although there are no plans yet and the title is still under consideration.
It would be great to see all the Final Fantasy VII characters on a next generation console. We'll keep you updated on this matter.

Square Enix announced the Final Fantasy VII Remake a few months ago during Sony's E3 press conference. Today they showed off the first gameplay at the PlayStation Experience keynote. Oh and the PC port of Final Fantasy VII that they trolled us with last year is available on the PlayStation 4 today!
