According to both SquareEnix President Yoichi Wada and Game Director Hiromichi Tanaka, Final Fantasy XIV is unlikely to appear on Xbox 360 due to the "closed" nature of Xbox Live.
"The main reason why we couldn't go with Xbox 360 was the Xbox Live system," stated Tanaka. "Microsoft has a different point of view: they want to have a closed environment for Xbox Live. We're still talking to... We couldn't come to an agreement on Xbox Live."
Wada later called this situation the "true battlefield" for publishers in the years to come, adding "First and foremost I would like them [the platform holders] to come up with a network infrastructure that will allow the publishers like us to freely design different business schemes,"
With FFXIV scheduled to enter it's First PC Beta Phase in the coming weeks (with Beta Phase 2 possibly open to PS3 users), the game seems most likely to remain for those two platforms~
