Square Enix on 16th announced that the registered players of Final Fantasy XI on Playstation 2 and Windows version combined had reached their target of 500,000 players by the end of March.
FFXI began its hype as the first MMORPG for the Playstation 2 console back in 2001. In May 2002, FFXI launched its service along with PlayOnline. Its initial launch was interferred with problems such as server down and double fee, but managed to get back on track to launch its service in US in October 2003. Now, every 1 player has an average of 2.5 characters and growing.
This number will definately increase when it hits Europe, which is rumored to be due sometime this year! Also the rumor about the new expansion is still alive and has players anxiously waiting. Final Fantasy XI is surely a success for Square Enix.
