According to certain game dealers, Square Enix should be releasing the next installment of the Dragon Quest series in Japanese stores on November 25, 2004. This date is yet to be confirmed by Square Enix but matches the, Winter 2004, release date set by the company.
On a related note, Dragon Quest VIII and Final Fantasy XII are still the two most wanted games in Japan according to Famitsu's Most Wanted charts. DQVIII obtained 3,906 votes while FFXII came in close with 3,699 votes. The two titles have been battling it out each week and have allowed none to come in the top 2 spots of the charts.
