Nintendo held a conference today that was devoted to to their upcoming portable console, the Nintendo DS. Square Enix took advantage of this scenario by announcing that it would be releasing a remake of Final Fantasy III on the console. This is the only Final Fantasy title that has not been remade by the company. There were talks in the past about how it would've been remade for the WonderSwan Color, but things never materialized. Akitoshi Kawazu and Shigeru Miyamoto made the announcement but brought no images or videos to show except a plain logo of the game and a crystal shown in the prelude of many FF titles. Kawazu was also heard mentioning how there was a new Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles title in production for the Nintendo DS, and that there could very well be a connection between the old and the new game.

Square Enix has stated that it will be releasing five games for Nintendo's new portable, including Egg Monster Heroes, a remake of Final Fantasy III, a new Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles title, a new Dragon Quest Monsters title, and a yet to be revealed title.
