Shinji Hashimoto, series producer to the Final Fantasy franchise, was interviewed by SG Cafe last weekend and covered a variety of talking points in advance of the western release of Lightning Returns. Discussions turned towards Square Enix's other projects (Hashimoto unceremoniously squashed rumors of Final Fantasy X-3) and Hashimoto was asked about the possibilities of an HD remaster of Final Fantasy XII, the only other offline main entrant in the series for the PS2 generation.
At this moment, we do not have any plans. But as Kitase-san has mentioned, if there are a lot of requests from the fans for a HD remastered version of Final Fantasy XII, we might consider it. But with that said, at this moment there are no plans to do so.”
His comments come several months after Yoshinori Kitase, producer for the recently released Lightning Returns, first spurred rumors of a potential Final Fantasy XII HD remaster. Back at E3 2013, Kitase was asked about the likelihood of other games getting the remaster treatment should Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster prove to be successful in the western markets.
"I mean, if we HAD to single out one of the vast number of Final Fantasy titles which we could make in HD, it would have to be Final Fantasy XII," he said. "I was not involved in the project, though, so we can't really comment on that."
Square Enix has, effectively, remastered in HD the most substantial games in its PS2 library with Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts II, and Final Fantasy X | X-2 getting a graphical facelift. Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster hits shelves in North America and Europe next month with Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD Remix due out later this year.

September has been a crazy busy month for Square Enix. From PAX, to GameStop Expo, to TGS and now EGX, the company has been giddily showing off its blockbuster lineup to crowds across the world. The upcoming HD remaster of FINAL FANTASY XII: THE ZODIAC AGE was livestreamed at EGX, courtesy of PlayStation Access this weekend and the result is...

While Final Fantasy XV was having its moment in the sun, Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age was the sleeper hit in Square Enix's lineup at E3 2016. The game was also playable to members of the press who had the chance to experience, firsthand, some of the improvements that are being made to the title in preparation for its...

Originally released for PS2 in 2006, a high definition remaster of Final Fantasy XII was announced today. Square Enix is preparing the previous international version, then known as the Zodiac Job System, for its true, full international debut across the world as Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age. The game will arrive in 2017 for the PS4. It will include...
I would sign the petition for this but do people really care about remasters of PS2 games? If they are going to spend the time, can we please get some remakes of the PSone era games? Playstation 2 games don't really look that different when they are remade, maybe sharper but they are not really reaching a new audience if that is a goal.
I'm not interested in the PS2 remasters at all. PS1 remakes on the other hand would be awesome.
But I think the main problem is that they would require a lot more work. For PS2 remasters all they have to do is up the resolution of the textures and make minor tweaks to the game code (well maybe not in the case of X/X-2 :p). For PS1 remakes then they would have to recreate the entire games from scratch. I'm still hoping for a FFVII remake though :)

I really enjoyed almost everything about Final Fantasy XII except for the story. Looking back, the characters deserved a slightly more original story than what they got but Ivalice deserves to be experienced in HD. I have fond memories of Rabanastre and Arcades but I remember how jagged the edges were on literally everything in that game from characters to banners to weapons. Please, Almighty Square Enix Gods, remaster Final Fantasy XII for PS3. Or PS4. Whatever floats your boat—just do it and I swear that I'll buy it.
Also, at the bottom of the linked article is a video showing Hashimoto's all too priceless reaction to being asked about a Final Fantasy VII remake. It's ironic to me that they churn out Final Fantasy XIII games that nobody really asked for, and pretend like we begged them for it, but react the way that he does when pressured to remake a videogame that everyone and their mothers ask for.
I wouldn't mind a HD remaster for handhelds but like most of you above me I really want remakes of the PS1 era Final Fantasies.
PS1 remakes would be cool but remakes of Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger would be awesome.
Please make a hd version of ff12! +.+
