While Final Fantasy XV was having its moment in the sun, Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age was the sleeper hit in Square Enix's lineup at E3 2016. The game was also playable to members of the press who had the chance to experience, firsthand, some of the improvements that are being made to the title in preparation for its 2017 release. Jason Schreier, over at Kotaku, noted some of the improvements to the game:
There are actually two different modes. One lets you play at 4x the speed. “It’s probably wise to use that when you’re crossing huge terrains,” Katano said. The other is 2x normal speed. “That’s useful if you want to get through more enclosed, crowded spaces like cities and dungeons,” Katano said. There’s also an auto-save feature that will activate every time you switch maps, he added.
Square Enix also live streamed the gameplay, which you can watch below, and one of the commentators remarking that the game "looks the way I remember it" got me right where it counts.

A little slip of the tongue may just have been the confirmation Final Fantasy XII fans have been waiting for. At tonight's Distant Worlds concert in Pittsburgh, Composer Arnie Roth announced that work had begun on a remake of FFXII, much to the delight and confusion of the live crowd. Now, given that Arnie Roth isn't a developer, I would...
I'm most interested to try out the Zodiac Job System. While the Gambit system was a true achievement, the license board--despite is convenience--was kind of a mess.
Nice to know I was't the only one excited by this remaster ;p Never really played it through seriously, so I'm really looking forward to this release! Graphics revamp looks sweet as :)
