Type-0 HD 80% Done, Says Tabata

At the PAX Prime videogame conference in Seattle, WA this week attendees were treated to roughly 20 minutes of the HD Remaster of Final Fantasy Type-0. It's the first serious mention of the remaster's existence and progress from Square Enix since being formally announced at E3 2014 back in June. Back then, Almost immediately after the game's announcement, a fan localization project was quickly shuttered after Square issued a cease and desist order.

Skipping back to the PAX Prime convention this last week, Square Enix's Hajime Tabata used the conference venue to get in touch with IGN's Marty Sliva. Honestly, the entire article is worth a read but the highlights are as follows: Tabata's keyword for Type-0 is "mature" and that he's very enthusiastic to see the game debut in the west on new hardware. Unfortunately, he sidestepped questions about why the title won't arrive for PS Vita, but assures readers that the title is "full retail" which likely means the length and depth of a traditional Final Fantasy title.

Beyond the 80% estimate, no word was given on when exactly gamers can expect to get their hands on Type-0.

UPDATE: As mentioned in the comments, Tabata also conducted an interview with Kotaku's Jason Schreier, where Schreier asked a few more pointed questions about the game's history and future. Once again, the whole article is worth a ready but the major highlights are that the game will be available within the next year and that Square Enix hopes it will pad the install base of next generation hardware to increase the potential sales volume of Final Fantasy XV.

I think they mentioned that they would release it within a year from now. That probably means that FFXV is still far away from complete.

Surprisingly, Type-0 wasn't at Sony's pre-TGS conference. I wonder what 80% really means? FFXV was also (obviously) not there, so expect another year of no news for that game :p

Maybe they'll show something at TGS? Isn't that in a couple of weeks?

Basically, I think if we all just pretend that this game is Final Fantasy XV it'll make the fact that the real XV is never coming out more endurable. If we could get a trailer and some gameplay from TGS for Type-0 I'd call it a win!

I think I read somewhere that the press got to see actual gameplay at PAX. From what I can recall they said that it looked good but you could still see that its a HD "upgrade" and not a full remake of the game.
