Hyper PlayStation is a magazine that is known for its reviews that come out before the game's actual release. Being a Japanese magazine, they finally did a review of Final Fantasy X-2. However, the review has not been based on the entire game but only on an opening portion of it. There were three editors who reviewed the game. They took into consideration three factors which were the story, the characters and the gameplay. Each was worth 10 points of the 30.

Editor 1: Story (8/10), Characters (9/10), Gameplay (9/10) = 26/30. Editor 2: Story (8/10), Characters (7/10), Gameplay (8/10) = 24/30. Editor 3: Story (8/10), Characters (9/10), Gameplay (8/10) = 23/30.

It is known that the magazine evaluates upcoming games very strictly. It has been mentiond that the game has not yet been played till the end by these reviewers and thus as one would know, the story would be quite confusing to them. But in general, the editors made great praise of FFX2's battle system which they found very innovative.
