While the recent talk about sequels and remasters is certainly a lovely addition to any Final Fantasy fan's day, there's still an enormous elephant in the room and its name is Final Fantasy XV. Yoshinori Kitase, a longtime producer of the franchise, has been extremely active the last two weeks in the buildup to Lightning Returns but that hasn't stopped him from talking about the next big title in the series.
Speaking to VideoGamer.com, Kitase offered up several morsels on Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III, both of which are being directed by Tetsuya Nomura and were officially unveiled at E3 2013. Kitase described Final Fantasy XV, in particular, as being well along in its development journey but not at the expense of cannibalizing resources from the KH3.
"We can't give too much information but certainly looking at Final Fantasy XV, it's not as if it's in competition with Kingdom Hearts 3 for resources or anything like that. It's quite far into development now and it is being given a very high priority within the company itself, but that doesn't mean Kingdom Hearts isn't."
Kitase, one of the main contributors to the lore behind Fabula Nova Crystallis: Final Fantasy , also elaborate on the mythos that underpins Final Fantasy XV and what connections it might have to Final Fantasy XIII.
"Right from the start when we first it announced it as Versus XIII, the game itself was backed up by the same Crystal legend: the Fabulla Nova Crystallis mythology that underpins the whole of the XIII series. So even though it's not necessarily the same universe or the same game, they're all linked and underpinned by the backdrop of that legend. Now it's moved on - obviously the title's been changed to Final Fantasy XV - but that hasn't actually changed. The story and the world is still going to be linked and backed up by that. So yes, there is the link between XIII and XV, and they both share that mythology as a backdrop and a starting point."
Final Fantasy XV itself will define the nature of that link and how strong it is. In one of the game's earliest trailers, Noctis and Stella admire a portrait of Etro, goddess of death, but the most recent media puts an emphasis on a war to control the crystals. No word on Final Fantasy XV's release date but the trickle of new information might turn into another flood at this year's E3.

I'm really looking forward to this. Hope it doesn't disappoint like XIII did.
One day I hope they tell us exactly what took so long and why; like a really gritty behind the scenes documentary. But, yeah, I hope XV is good too.
The graphics in that trailer are amazing. It almost looks like a playable version of advent children.
A Final Fantasy VII remake with the same engine would be awesome.
I'm sure that they'll do everything in their power to create the greatest FF game in a long time. The series needs a really good game and they know it.
A documentary would be cool. They made one for LR:FFXIII so why not XV? :)
