Hajime Tabata, Director of Final Fantasy XV, has revealed in an interview that the upcoming title is "about 50–60% complete", with the game basically having restarted development in 2012 when he joined the team.
The decision to focus solely on next-gen consoles, as well as a "change in direction" for the game are the leading contributors to the delayed process.
Tabata also mentioned there will be no playable female characters in FFXV, a decision that goes back to the game's original vision as Final Fantasy Versus XIII. It is unclear at this time if the other characters shown (besides Noctis) are playable or AI/Gambit controlled.
